Iranian shorts to vie in Finland

The Tampere Film Festival 2018 in Finland has scheduled to host three Iranian short films.

The festival will screen ‘Whales’, ‘Exit Toll’, and ‘The Rebel’ (Taghi) in March 2018 at three different international sections.

The 21-minute ‘Whales’ directed by Behnam Abedi will compete at International Competition 1: Mysteries.

The 19-minute ‘Exit Toll’ directed by Mohammad Najjarian-Daryani is a France-Iran production which will be screened at International Competition 2: Obsessions.

The 17-minute ‘The Rebel’ directed by Kourosh Asgari is to vie at International Competition 5: Queerscenes.

More than 50 shorts from across the world are scheduled to compete at the Tampere Film Festival 2018.

In 2017, Iranian VR film ‘If You Go Away’ directed by Soheila Golestani won the Best VR Movie Award at the Tampere Film Festival.

‘Youfek’ by Mahvash Sheikholeslami from Iran received the Grand Prix of the Finnish festival in 1999.

The Finnish event is a short film festival held every March in Tampere. It is accredited by the film producers' society FIAPF, and together with the short film festivals in Oberhausen and Clermont-Ferrand, it is among the most important European short film festivals.

The 2018 edition of the Tampere Film Festival is slated for March 7 to 11 in the southern Finnish city.
